A previous study compared the effects of different palliative treatments (including PDT + APC, radiotherapy + APC, and argon plasma coagulation alone) in patients with advanced esophageal cancer and dysphagia [13]. The results showed that both PDT and radiotherapy significantly improved dysphagia; however, there was no difference in median overall survival (mOS) among the three groups (5.2, 6.2, and 6.0 months, respectively).
