A previous study comparing Photofrin-mediated photodynamic therapy (PDT) versus Nd:YAG thermal ablation for palliative treatment in patients with advanced esophageal cancer and dysphagia [10] showed that at 1 month, the es-ORR was 32% and 20%, respectively, and the proportion of patients with improved dysphagia was 35% and 29%. In terms of safety, the TEAE incidence rates were 92% and 82%, respectively, and the AE-related mortality rates were 24% and 21%. Among patients treated with PDT, all patients avoided sunlight exposure for 1-2 months, and 19% of patients in the PDT group experienced photosensitivity reactions due to sun exposure.
