Studies have shown that arabinogalactan can be recognized by immune cells as a pathogen-associated molecular pattern (PAMP) [17]. A reduction in its synthesis may decrease immune stimulation, and a decrease in its abundance can reduce the proliferation risk of opportunistic pathogens such as mycobacteria, thereby lowering the intestinal inflammatory burden [36]. By downregulating the abundance of the aforementioned pathways, Bu Xu Ping Chuan膏 (a traditional Chinese medicine) can prevent excessive synthesis of antigens by gut microbiota and the proliferation of opportunistic pathogens, maintaining intestinal immune homeostasis and reducing inflammatory stimuli. Consequently, through the gut-lung axis, it can alleviate chronic pulmonary inflammation, which aligns with the TCM principle of "strengthening the body's defenses and expelling pathogens."
