(3) MICT and HIIT Improve Mitochondrial Quality in Skeletal Muscle of db/db Mice: Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observations of the mitochondrial ultrastructure in the gastrocnemius muscle showed that mitochondria in the NC group were typically ellipsoidal or rod-shaped, arranged tightly and orderly, with clear and complete cristae structures and uniformly dense matrix. Compared to the NC group, most mitochondria in the DC group exhibited swelling, vacuolization, disrupted and dissolved cristae, and even partial loss of membrane structure. Compared to the DC group, the mitochondrial morphology in both the MICT and HIIT groups was significantly improved, with reduced swelling, partial recovery of cristae structure, although some cristae were still disrupted, and enhanced membrane integrity.
