Chronic urinary retention following lumbosacral surgery is a challenging urological condition that can lead to hydronephrosis, urinary tract infections, and even renal failure. Current treatment options are limited, with catheterization being the primary choice, which significantly impairs patients' quality of life. In this study, through a series of carefully monitored cases, we observed that electroacupuncture may provide a safe and effective alternative therapy for postoperative chronic urinary retention. Following electroacupuncture treatment, more than half of the patients responded to the therapy, and one-third of the patients were able to discontinue catheter use and regain spontaneous voiding ability; there were no reports of serious adverse events. By addressing clinical gaps, this promising approach may improve patient outcomes and potentially expand the scope of complementary medical practices.
